Trip reports of Northeastern rides this month

June 23, 2011

A couple of groups of MN riders were up north this month riding and posted their trip reports on ADVrider:

The photos look great.  I would love to add on a northeastern loop to the TMAT to hit some of those trails and maybe even loop through Canada.  Feedback from anyone out there on trails to include would be great!

Riding and Fishing

June 16, 2011

Just a note to encourage people to break up their long rides by stopping at hidden fishing holes along the way and casting a few times to see what hits. Minnesota Dual Sport trails contain some gorgeous fishing spots that no one else is using because they are too hard for a normal vehicle to get to.

This doesn’t have to be complicated either. I have seen many posts on discussion boards about how to pack your fishing gear on your bike.  People have concocted complex systems for attaching their gear and poles etc.   Some even give up because it is too heavy or cumbersome. I really don’t think it has to be that hard.  See the video below, then add a pole and lures to your packing list for your next trip.

Ride Reports & new Foothills Loop

June 13, 2011

A couple of ride reports have been posted in the forum.  Jump on over and check them out.

One of the reports was from myself from a ride this weekend on the new Foothills Loop and TMAT-B and TMAT-C routes.  It was a great trip so check out the story and photos.

The Foothills Loop itself was generated from the other rider report from Papamoto.

The .gpx files for TMAT-B and TMAT-C have been updated slightly due to this ride, just an FYI.

Go for a ride this weekend!

June 9, 2011

Lots of rides happening this weekend so you have no excuse to stay inside. Streeter is leading a group down to Welsh from Hastings, Paul from the TC Dual Sport group is heading to Nemadji, and I am going from Brainerd up the TMAT Central to connect with new loop that I am mapping out near Bemidji.  I am alone so far, so comment on this post if you want to come along.

Get out an enjoy the cold front that is coming before the heat and mugginess of El Nina sets in!

Cass-Hubbard-Wadena map added

June 1, 2011

Thanks to “Danomsp” from the TC Dual Sport group for supplying a PDF file with combined DOT maps of these three counties.  This is a popular area to ride.

Download the PDF to a cd or memory stick, take it to Kinko’s, and for a few bucks they will print it out on their large document printer for you.

Great resource to have.  It is posted to the Trails page.

New “LeSuer Loop” gps file added

May 27, 2011

It is a goal to add some fun “loop” trails off from the TMAT in various places.  Several folks have sent some in.  I finally posted one of them. Find the “LeSuer Loop” on the Trails page.  Thank you ADVronksi on advrider.com for submitting this!  Hopefully, this is the start of many more.

New Minnesota Adventure Rider Membership and Forum!

May 27, 2011

One of the decisions out of last night’s club meeting was to start allowing “Membership” in the Minnesota Adventure Riders and to use a registration process on this website to do that.  Membership is FREE.  But you do have to be an AMA member in good standing to be approved.

The first benefit of membership is that you will have access to our new online Forum. Now, I know what you are thinking, “Ugh!  Another motorcycle forum?”.  I was of the same opinion until recently.  The forum gives us a better idea of how many riders are out there, how many are serious about this club, and of course gives riders a place to connect with each other.  I think places like ADVrider.com have just gotten too big as well and it would be nice to have a local site to find local info.

Other benefits will follow. The club is still working that out.

So with that, click on Contact Us in the site menu to register, then once approved click on the Forums link above to go to the discussion area.
